You're Not Your Own Anymore...

It is good for us to be challenged and reminded from time to time, that being redeemed is the beginning of our journey with God, not the end.

Think of being re-deemed as like being ‘deemed’ again.  We were enemies of God now we are children of God in the process of sanctification.  Jesus said that IF we continue in His Word we will be His disciples.  There is a process of discipline in the renewing of our minds that requires our effort and attention.  If we truly want to be disciples we will need to marinate ourselves, absolutely soak in His Word.

Possibly the greatest problem in the body of Christ today is that people want everything done for them.  Instant anointings, gifts and so on.  The reality is that we have an ‘anointing’ that is peculiar to us alone, the seed of the spirit of Christ within in us.  It can be fed on the Word and healthy activities or contaminated and polluted by the World around us.

The bible challenges us to be ‘excellent at what is good, and innocent of evil.’  This is the essence of holiness.  Consecration and purity.  But without the Word of God to instruct us we don’t actually know what we should be doing, or what we should be avoiding.  Listen to the Message...

Gideon's Faith Journey

The story of Gideon found in Judges Chapters 6 to 8 is a great source of encouragement to us on a number of different counts. One of the first lessons to be learnt is that God shows up in the most unlikely places. We see this even in our times with God having ‘hot spots’ in places that we would not necessarily choose. Another thing that we find in Gideon’s story is that the Lord will often choose people who are not necessarily high profile…. even the weak and foolish in the worlds’ eyes may be hidden in Christ to be raised up at a time of His choosing.

We note in the story the progression of Gideon’s faith as he experiences the voice and plan of God, the protection and supernatural signs, and provision of the Lord. God is gracious and patient with Gideon, as He is with us, as He moves us toward being ready to trust Him and step into His purposes.

Finally, we observe from the story that when Gideon finally does step into God’s plan, all he’s really doing is just ‘turning up’ – it’s all God’s ability that brings the victory.  Listen to the Message...

The Secret Power Of Lawlessness (Rebellion)

Our spiritual adversary has characteristics to his nature which he seeks to imprint on fallen man. One of these expressions of his person that he is wanting to manifest through us on the Earth is lawlessness, or perhaps for many of us it is better known as rebellion. This attitude does not want rules, limits or to have to submit to any other authority than self. It will make us soulish in our approach to life making ourselves our own ruler, god and authority. We hear it daily in life with philosophies such as; ‘look out for number 1!’ ‘If it’s right for you, it’s right!’ ‘If it feels good do it!’

The overwhelming evidence is that this kind of living does not actually make us happy at all. We see a proliferation of lawlessness and rebellion in our times as the family unit is broken down. There is a secret power which makes mankind vulnerable to participating with this element of Satan’s work and we examine it in this session. We want to be ‘not ignorant of Satan’s devices!’  Listen to the Message....

Dealing With Storms

Even though Jesus is in your boat you will often face storms.  Storms come to stop you or delay you from experiencing what God has promised you.

Jesus didn’t want the disciples to react in fear and doubt His love and His promise of going over to the other side but to have faith in His word and use His name to cast that storm away.

What storm are you facing that is trying to stop you from experiencing God’s promises?  Know this that God’s promises and the name of Jesus is greater than any storm today, so stop focusing on the storm and with boldness and faith speak to that storm and expect it to disappear.  Listen to the Message...

Brokenheartedness II

Previously we established that it is not God who has rejected us but rather us that reject Him. He has provided a way to deal with this sin issue by sending us a substitute to take the inevitable punishment for sin. Jesus came to clear the way for us to receive God’s full forgiveness, paying the final price for our sin, death. He received rejection from both man and God so that we could be accepted by our Father in heaven.

The first rejection that we know of from scripture is that of Satan rejecting God’s Lordship. Adam then participated with Satan by rejecting God’s love, protection and provision and accepting this fallen spirit’s distorted views and opinions of God’s ways.

We were all born under this generational rejection that had its inception with Adam, consequently we are all too familiar, and identify with the symptoms of rejection that are detailed in this message.  Nothing is strange about this, it is just what is common to man. But God has an answer and the work of the Holy Spirit in this dispensation is to continue the work of the Holy Spirit in setting us free.  Listen to the Message...

Brokenheartedness I

The first thing listed in what God was wanting to do for His people through Jesus that is listed in Luke 4:18 is to bind up the broken-hearted.  So the next question that we have to ask ourselves is what is a broken heart?

Most of us who are adults might reflect on some shattered romance from the past that ‘broke our hearts’ as we would say….or even pain that we experience in our current relationships when hurtful things happen.  Perhaps we might even recall times where we were very sad and broken in childhood or at school.

So what exactly is it about these events that made us so sad?  Most often it is rejection coming from another that cause hurt to our identity. Rejected and discarded as not good enough, not important, worthless or some other form of not being wanted. Non acceptance = rejection. From this we deduce that broken heartedness is far more common than we may have thought. In fact many if not nearly all of us have had broken hearts at some level. The beliefs associated with rejection are often lurking just below the surface and are ‘triggered’ when the right stressor or situation comes along. The promise of God is ministry through the Holy Spirit to set us free from this inner problem.  Listen to the Message...

The Power of Forgiveness

There is an overcoming power in forgiveness.  God forgave us for all our sins (past, present and future) and He asks us to forgive others, holding nothing against anyone.

God’s Word is absolute, it is without confusion or question.  It is truth.  In His Word, God tells us many times the benefits of forgiveness and the pitfalls of unforgiveness.  Forgiveness releases burdens we carry as well as releasing blessing to flow into our lives and through our lives.  Forgiveness disarms unforgiveness, it overcomes its power.

Be in God’s perfect will and forgive.  Listen to the Message...

Burdens & Baggage

We’re meant to travel ‘light’ through life, not be weighed down with burdens and baggage.  (Burdens are the worries and cares we tend to gather in our daily life.  Baggage is the stuff we carry from place to place and from relationship to relationship – hurts, distrust, disappointments, distorted views, wrong beliefs, suspicion, anger, desire for payback…)

We all know you can travel much faster and smoother from one location to another in an airplane if you only have ‘carry-on’ luggage.  There’s no hassle with checking in baggage or picking it up at the other end.  There’s no need to transport the baggage in a taxi or courtesy bus with you.  You won’t be distracted by your concerns with managing your baggage.

God wants us to travel ‘light’ so we can always be ready to do His will; to receive blessings from Him and to bless others.  We can’t do this if we’re carrying around burdens and baggage all the time.  Burdens and baggage are tiring, distracting, and rob us of blessing.

Get rid of them all and experience the peace and joy of the Lord as you never imagined!  Listen to the Message...

Dismantling Our Fallen Nature III

We see the effects of ungodly control having its activity and expression across the World. It is evident in dominating cultures where women and children are devalued. We see it also in so called ‘free’ nations where our freedom seems to mean that we have very little self-control and self-discipline, seemingly shunning rules and regulations.

In churches we see an imbalanced grace message that promotes no rules in our Christian lives. In our western culture we are increasingly dealing with humanism which is far more insidious. Humanism is all about what is best for the group. This manifests itself in things like job description parenting. ‘Some people get angry and violent and excessively smack their children….therefore we will make it illegal to discipline your child.’ ‘Religion is at the root of all conflict….therefore we will stop religion for the good of the group.’ Notably more fleshly activities such as drinking excessively are not touched.

Humanism, if it were true to itself would say things such as: ‘some people drink too much and do bad things therefore no one should be allowed to drink!’ or ‘some drivers go too fast and hurt people, therefore nobody should be allowed to drive automobiles.’

In any event we notice that various imbalanced forms of control create problems in nations, churches and families across our modern world. Our goal would be to see God’s order prevail. This is what works….and attracts the blessing. “Thy will be done on Earth….”   Listen to the Message...

Dismantling Our Fallen Nature II

The apostle John reportedly wrote in code so that the revelations that he received from the Lord could go out unhindered to the churches of the times.  The churches in turn having and understanding the Old Testament stories, given as illustrations and instructions to us, could interpret that which he was referring to.

In Revelation 2:18-2, in the message that he was relaying to the church in Thyatira, John makes reference to Jezebel.  This was most likely meaningless to the Romans, but for the church of all ages it carries great significance.

In recent times we hear terms such as; ‘a Jezebel spirit.’  Although there is no direct reference in scripture to this spirit, experience has shown that a demonic entity responding to that name is in existence.

What John was referring to was a particular set of characteristics that would be manifested in an individual’s life that are not consistent with the Holy Spirit, but are consistent with an unholy spirit – and exhibiting the nature shown in the story of Jezebel. This spiritual/mental and emotional programming must be dealt with to free those of us who are captive and possibly unintentionally participating with our enemies in these areas.

Further reading on Jezebel can be found in 1 Kings 18, 19 and 21.  Her final demise and the result of the curse on her behaviour is found in 2 Kings. Listen to the Message...

Dismantling Our Fallen Nature I

There are predictable foundations or roots that we have inherited from our generation line that runs right back to Adam and Eve’s submission to Satan. Being able to understand these foundations is the first step towards being able to demolish them. It is often not that we want to do them but rather that we don’t understand why we do what we do.

Most often the fruit of our problems belies beliefs that are the exact opposite. It is as if our solutions to our inner beliefs are many times over compensations…..which give ground, or footholds for our spiritual enemies.  Listen to the Message...

Every Action Makes A Difference

Sometimes we can find ourselves wondering if what we do in our daily lives really makes any impact.  We can feel that no-one really appreciates us when we look to others for acknowledgement of our good deeds and ministry.  But it's not here on earth that our reward resides...it's in Heaven.

God Has A Plan For Your Life

God encourages us in our walk daily.  He has a vision for our lives that we need to seek and embrace with vigour, seeking how He wants us to pursue it and participate in it.  It is a vision that progresses each day and we are called to be part of its progression and through that, we experience the blessings He has prepared for us.

As we journey along the path that God has made for us we learn, mature and grow.  We face challenges that cause us to think, draw upon what we have learnt previously, seek help, make decisions and act.  Each time we do something we exercise our will.  Is your will aligned with the most visionary leader the world has ever, and will ever see?  This leader is God’s own son, Jesus Christ.  By following Christ you are in God’s plan for your life…you are in the safest place imaginable…Listen to the Message.

The Father's Heart & His Family

From the beginning God has displayed a Father’s heart.  He created man, and from man He created woman.  These were the beginning of His family.  He created them with plan and purpose and His love has never waned for His family, even when they turned their backs on Him…Listen to the Message.

The Finger of God (Part 2)

A regular feature of Jesus’ ministry was dealing with evil spirits.  These spirits evidently had a full range of activity, with examples given to us of demons causing sickness and infirmity, mental problems and a variety of other maladies.  In our age it is easy for us to feel that we are too clever for this area of ministry, and that we can somehow deal with these problems with drugs or psychology.

The statistics on illnesses and mental issues show us that what we are doing when we ignore the spiritual component just isn’t working.  The problem is usually not so much the spiritual amplification of the problem that is presenting as it is the ground that is held in our lives.  By the ground we mean areas of deception, emotional issues or even bondage to sin that may be ‘strongholds’ or the strong man’s goods as the Bible frames it.

As we deal with these areas we can be freed through the name of Jesus of the spiritual captivity that afflicts us.  Helping people with these difficulties is a long neglected area of the work of the church which really should be central...Listen to Message.

The Finger of God (Part 1)

In this age we see a proliferation of spiritual practices and beliefs. These range from various religions and occult practices through to Hollywood’s take on spirits and even demonic activity.

The only real reference for truth in this area is God’s ‘spirit level’ the Bible. The scriptures reveal the reality of demonic activity, how it can affect humanity, and includes how it may be dealt with.

To effectively sort out the problems that come through this realm we must first understand human participation in allowing the manifestation of these spirit entities...Listen to the Message

The Words of Our Confession

Do we please God with the things we say?  God wants us to hold fast to the words of our confession; our confession of faith in Him is a reflection of our relationship with Him.  What are we confessing?  Victory or defeat?  Sickness or health?  Provision or lack?  Unbelief is a health hazard in itself.  It brings about a negative confession and we'll soon see that we can't rise above our confession.

So change the confession...

Our hearts need to be full of God's Word so that what we speak is consistent with His Word.  When our hearts reflect His Word, the confession of our tongue is in keeping with God's desire for us and what He's placed within our heart through His Word.  We speak victory, health and prosperity (to name a few) because our faith is alive in Him and our tongue confesses (speaks) the truths that abide within our heart.  Listen to the Message...

The Gospel of the Unders & Overs (Part 2)

The scriptures reveal that as mankind journeys through life we are tested, tried and proven in regards to our attitude towards God.  This testing is done through temptations that are on offer which we prioritize over God’s revealed will for our lives.  The problem is often that we do not believe that the Lord has our best interests at heart, that He himself is good, and that He indeed loves us.

Biblical revelation directs us to understand that there is a battle going on for our free will and choice.  We can choose what the world offers, that which would exalt ourselves, or those things that please God.  The things which please God are actually the same things that bring us true happiness.
There is a battle going on from spiritual forces outside of our being to influence our decisions.

There is also a battle that goes on within us between the parts of our being which want God and the parts that want to submit to the outside influences.  The only place of peace is making a ‘once for all time’ decision to be fully aligned under God’s way...  Listen to the Message.

The Gospel of the Unders & Overs (Part 1)

As we go through life it is easy for us to assume that our thoughts are simply our thoughts. The reality revealed in the scriptures is that this is far from the truth. We are indeed influenced by unseen powers which sway our thought life and impact our behaviour. Once we realize that this is the case the next thing that we need to know is that these unseen influences are looking for cooperation to participate with them in their activities on Earth.

God often gets the blame for things which happen in our World. The sad reality is that it has always been mankind’s submission to these spirit beings which gives them power to cause the troubles that we see. It is the deception that this realm even exists that keeps the continued cooperation of humanity in place... Listen to the Message.

The Heart of Evangelism

Are you hungry for God?  The world needs God!  The world needs to hear the Gospel message! The heart of Evangelism is having a hunger for God and seeing the lost come into relationship with Him and share in that same hunger.

We have been called to make disciples of the nations, to share the Gospel.  We are all called to evangelise.  We all need to be hungry for God...Listen to the Message

Truth Encounters (Part 2)

The power of our perceptions of who we are as an identity, how others see us, and consequently how do we respond to life should not be underestimated.  What we hold as ‘our truth’ is often uncomfortably at odds with ‘God’s truth’ about us.  Our ‘truth’ is often merely a perception that we have held, which has been programmed experientially by life.

This programming can come through negative things said to us when we are vulnerable, or sometimes it comes through us having to draw our own conclusions about a situation because we weren’t encouraged or supported with positive counsel at the time.  These are beliefs that we have taken to ‘heart.’

God has an answer. The truth from Him regarding our inner thoughts and beliefs will set us free...Listen to the Message.

Truth Encounters (Part 1)

Many of the problems that we encounter as Christians emanate from strongholds that have been established in us in our formative years.

These areas where we lack true freedom are usually thought-based. They generally revolve around us operating from our perceived beliefs about our identity, how others see us and also how we should respond to these inner activities.

The Bible makes a distinction between the thoughts of our hearts and the knowledge that we have compiled in our conscious mind. We understand then that what we know logically is truth to which we attribute mental assent, but it is not necessarily ‘truth that sets us free.’  Often we need truth in the inner parts for lasting freedom.

The apostle Paul struggled with this area of knowing in his mind what he wanted to do but at the same time having other desires within himself working against him...Listen to the Message.

Faith Made Simple

What is faith and what's its importance?  How does faith come? What's the difference between faith and hope?   What's your faith in?

God only responds to prayers of faith, not need or fear-based prayers. As we believe and confess His word, our faith will grow.  The Word of God is your source of faith.  No Word = no faith.   Meditate on what God has provided for you through Jesus in His word and you will find Him manifesting those promises to you.  Faith will receive what God's grace has provided....Listen to the Message.

A Stream Called Faith

All of the healing streams of God are activated by faith.  God is a ‘Faith God’ and for us to be a part of what He is doing in the Earth we need to release Him into the circumstances that we are confronted with by choosing to believe in Him.
God brings healing in a variety of ways.  Sometimes directly as a response to faith, other times it is His power in a meeting.  We may need spiritual release from bondage, or our problem may be from damaged emotions.
Whatever the reason, God has an answer...Listen to the Message.

The Streams of Healing

God has a river of provision and grace.  Like any river, it is fed by streams that together become one.  The river of God’s healing has different expressions which combine to meet the needs of humanity.  Each of these expressions require the truth of the Word to be made a reality through our cooperation.
The Holy Spirit empowers us, leads us and provides the equipment for the Word and will of God to be done in the Earth....Listen to the Message.

Who To Listen To...

All too often we listen to the wrong voice.  The pressures of life come along and more often than not, we pick up the tools to deal with them from the wrong rack.  We grab whatever tool is closest first.  It's usually panic with it's key attachment...fear.  And that's where things begin to go pear-shaped.  (Click on the image to see who cares about you.)

How To Recognise God's Voice

The Incredible Power of Your Expectations

Just imagine living your whole life limited by your fears.  It would be like living in a fish bowl not much bigger than yourself.  Now imagine living your life as God (the perfect Father) designed you to live it through Him.  It's like living in the big fish bowl with more water and more room to move.

Cast away your fears and trust God with your future.  It will be worth the effort!  Listen to the Message.

Focus Your Radar On The Holy Spirit

We all have an internal radar but where do we have it pointed?  What's it picking up - the things of God or the things of this world?

We concern ourselves with everything around us so much that our radar ends up getting stuck on self;  focused on all those things that impact the way we feel about our situations, how we feel about ourselves, what we think of ourselves, how much money we have (or don't have), the job we have and don't like, the people that rub us up the wrong way, the things we get upset about....and the list goes on.  Focusing on self will well and truly cause your radar to get corroded into place.  And then it takes a major effort to get it unlocked and moving again.

The Word of God says that focusing on self is the opposite to focusing on God. (Romans 8:5-8  Message Bible).

The thing about radars is that they're only designed to pick up a signal from the source that they're pointed at.  They can't pick up the signal from behind.  So if your radar is focused on self, then according to the Word, the back of your radar is pointed towards God.  You can't pick up the signal from God if you're busy picking up the signal from self.

This is why when we listen to God, when we have our radar pointed to the Holy Spirit to hear His voice, we sacrifice self.  Listen to the Message.

Operation Christmas Child 2013

A record 316,323 children in 7 countries received shoeboxes from Australia and New Zealand for Christmas in 2013!

From October to December the merry band of Operation Christmas Child volunteers have been hard at work processing shoeboxes and loading them into containers.
Depending on schedules, teh containers are shipped between November and January.  On arrival, after clearing customs, they are transported to villages, often in very remote and hard to reach places.
This year OCC shipped the most ever number of shoeboxes!  It's very exciting and it's also a very big challenge.  After all, how do you transport over 316,000 of anything?
Shoeboxes travel by boat, plane, car, yak, hores, motorbike, bullock-drawn cart - and OCC have even seen them carried on top of people's heads as they make the journey to waiting boys and girls.
Transport times vary according to weather, roughness of the road or track, remoteness of the village and mode of transport but, one thing is certain, when those shoeboxes arrive, it's Christmas for these children who have most likely never received a gift in their life!

This is where the 316,323 shoeboxes from Australia and New Zealand were distributed to;
  • 5,162 shoeboxes were shipped to children in Vanuatu.
  • 14,843 shoeboxes were shipped to children in Samoa.
  • 42,982 shoeboxes were shipped to children in Fiji.
  • 43,078 shoeboxes were shipped to children in PNG.
  • 73,892 shoeboxes were shipped to children in Vietnam.
  • 66,520 shoeboxes were shipped to children in Thailand.
  • 69,846 shoeboxes were shipped to children in Cambodia.

A Change of Heart

God's everlasting covenant of Love, Mercy and Grace is revealed to us through His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. He is our King.  In our daily lives we encounter experiences that contain proof of His love for us.  If we dare to look deep enough, we can always see Christ and His love for us in all things - we are reminded that God honours His covenant every day.

As King David did with Mephibosheth when he invited him to his table, Christ also invites us to His table through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Through the covenant that God made, we are invited to Christ's table where we, through His grace, come into His presence and receive salvation and all that He has for us...   Listen to the Message  (Sunday 9 March 2014)

Romans 8:16-17
16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.   (NKJV)

It's Our 14th Birthday!

This Sunday, 2 March 2014, it's our 14th Birthday!  We'll be having a sausage sizzle, Birthday cake and fantastic fellowship.  Nigel Walters will be fresh back from ministering in Cambodia and will be preaching.  He's always good value and makes you laugh with his unique style.  Come along and join with us at 10.00am at 54 Hill Street, Pt Elliot.

Seizing the Moment of Uncertainty

We can be seized by uncertainty to the point of inaction…or we can seize the moment of uncertainty and discover the will of God.  We need to do all we can to work out the will of God and through faith, we can.  The Holy Spirit will lead and guide us through the journey (He’s our Helper & Comforter) as we learn that;
By bringing all these together, we find that the peace that follows brings the revelation that we know, that we know, that we know the will of God for us…   Listen to the Message (Sunday 23 February 2014)

1 Samuel 14:6-8
Then Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, “Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the Lord will work for us. For nothing restrains the Lord from saving by many or by few.”
So his armorbearer said to him, “Do all that is in your heart. Go then; here I am with you, according to your heart.”  Then Jonathan said, “Very well, let us cross over to these men, and we will show ourselves to them.  (NKJV)

God Follows Through

God follows through on His promises.  He always has and He always will.  We can be assured of that because He's the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.  He has also proven time and again that He never leaves us or forsakes us.

What He's done for His children over the ages,  He can do in our lives today because He is the same God.  The Bible is full of testimonies of His Grace and provision.  We can see this at a personal level in the lives of people such as Joseph and the Apostle Paul, and then we can also see how God moves just as effectively on a much larger scale with a group of people, such as the nation of Israel (600,000 people plus dependents and livestock - Exodus 12:37-38).

So it doesn't matter to God whether it's just one person, a group of people, a church, a city, or a nation - nothing is impossible to Him (Mark 10:27).  He follows through on His promises...   Listen to the Message (Sunday 9 February 2014)

Strengthened By The Holy Spirit

Today we enjoyed the ministry of visiting A2A Pastors, Eugene and Judy Bognar.  What beautiful people!  They were a great encouragement to us all, reminding us to be looking outward and forward, to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit, and to put our trust in God.  It was a timely message.  God is so gracious in reaching out to us through people like Eugene and Judy.  What a truly wonderful and magnificent Father we have.  Thanks for your love Dad!

We're all missing Paul and Robyn; it was our first week without our beloved Pastors.  We're thinking of them and praying for them as they enter a new season in Christ.  Always in our hearts and prayers.

Founders Paul & Robyn Glazbrook
This Sunday, 26 January 2014, we are having a farewell and celebration service for our much-loved Pastors and founders of Covenant Family Church, Paul and Robyn Glazbrook.  Having spent the last 14 years dedicated to pioneering and building the church, Paul and Robyn have responded to the lead of the Holy Spirit and have chosen to make room for a new person to lead the church into its next chapter.

This is an exciting time for Paul and Robyn and we want to not only farewell them with blessing (and a few tears), but also celebrate with them their bold step into the future Christ has prepared.

The service will take people on a journey of joyous memories with Paul and Robyn, as experienced through the eyes of the many people whose lives they've touched. It starts at 10.00am at Covenant Family Church at 54 Hill Street, Pt Elliot.  It will be a fantastic morning and everyone is welcome to join us!
